The furthest object made by mankind, the Voyager One small spaceship (equipped with antennas, computers, special devices for investigation, pictures from Earth and the vinyl (actually gold) disc "The Sound Of Earth" [with player and instructions manual]) is traveling at the mesmerizing speed of 17 km/sec [!!!] through the interstellar space! At this speed, the first meeting with the nearby zone with the closer star around its travel zone will occur in about 38000 years [!!!]... we're just an infinite tiny particle of dust inside the huge galaxy/Universe with the inconceivable distances between stars!!! 0_0
Have in mind that:
It was launched in 1977;
It was used Jupiter's gravity to make it travel faster beyond the meeting with this giant planet;
We are in 2017!
The disk and the pictures set is attached to the device so possible intelligent alien life could see the pictures and play the disk... who knows...
To reach the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, with the present technology, we need at least about 32000 years of travel [at 40 km/sec]. Even if it's located "so close", at 4.3 lightyears away from us. We can see stars located about 6000-7000 lightyears away when we watch the starry sky at night (the furthest ones). And they all are located inside a sphere-shaped zone which is just a very small portion from our Galaxy!!! 0_0
One single "light-year" is just an enormously huge distance! Thousands of years traveling with the present faster starships and space devices...stars.chromeexperiments.com/
